EvangelismOur number one priority is leading Brazilians to Christ. There is no lack of opportunities for Evangelism in Brazil. Out of 180 million people, 130 million trust in Roman Catholic doctrine for salvation. Spiritism is all-pervasive, with 14,000 spiritist centers teaching a blend of African religions, Catholicism, and European mysticism. The tribal population of Brazil numbers over 350,000 and represents 192 languages and dialects. Of these, only 5 tribal languages have a complete copy of the Scriptures. Only 30 have a portion of the Bible. Although the number of evangelicals in Brazil has grown dramatically in the past decade, there are many who call themselves evangelicals who believe and teach salvation by works. They must know that Jesus is only one Way, one Truth, and one Life. Church-PlantingWe believe that the task of evangelizing Brazil will never be fully accomplished by foreign missionaries. Brazilians must be challenged to evangelize Brazilians. We plan to organize Brazilian believers into local, independent Baptist churches that are self-supporting, self-governing, and self-propagating. Ultimately, we hope to establish churches that will continue to grow and thrive without the need for missionary assistance or support. National Leadership TrainingPlanting churches that will last requires strong national leadership. Our goal is to not only encourage existing national pastors and leaders with regards to evangelizing Brazil, but to train up new young men and women to become the future leadership of the churches. More specifically... After a year of working alongside my parents, veteran missionaries Dean and Deloris McClure, God opened a door of opportunity in the city of Campinas, in the state of São Paulo. While Ann Janel was learning Portuguese at one of the top schools in the country, I had the opportunity to preach and teach in a number of the area churches, as well as teach in the Bible institute. In early 2010, we moved to the city of Jacareí, São Paulo, where I joined the pastoral staff of IBABI (Bible Baptist Church). Our role in this pastoral team is divided into three areas: discipleship, in the form of ten-week modules offered at the church; biblical counseling and the training of new counselors; and church planting, with plans for the creation of a church planting arm of the church to start several works regionally and nationally. |
